Great shape for a municipal course. Greens were rolling true and the pace was excellent for a Saturday morning.

Course was in solid condition. A few soft spots on the back nine from recent rain but nothing that affected play.
The Savannah Golf Club, established in 1927, holds the distinction of being the oldest municipal golf course in the city. Designed by the legendary Donald Ross, the course showcases his classic design principles with strategic bunkering, elevated greens, and a layout that demands thoughtful shot-making rather than brute force. Ross's vision for a course that is challenging yet fair for golfers of all skill levels is evident throughout, making it a beloved local institution.
The course is characterized by its tree-lined fairways and relatively flat terrain, a common feature of the coastal Georgia landscape. While not overly long by modern standards, the subtle undulations of the greens and the precise placement of hazards ensure that golfers must stay sharp from tee to green. The natural beauty of the lowcountry, with its mature oaks and Spanish moss, provides a picturesque backdrop for a round of golf.
Playing at Savannah Golf Club offers a journey through golf history. The course has been meticulously maintained to preserve its historical integrity while providing modern playing conditions. It's an excellent example of classic golf architecture, offering a pure golf experience that emphasizes strategy and finesse. The welcoming atmosphere and affordable rates make it a popular choice for both local residents and visitors looking to experience a piece of Savannah's rich golfing heritage.
